How stupid does a company have to be to mix up trim levels?
In the F150, Limited is top and Platinum significantly underneath. In the Expedition, it’s the opposite. Why would they do that!?

This is amazing. Ford’s rim levels have always confused me and now I know why. They can’t figure out which one is which themselves.

Ford might be stupid, but they’re not stupid enough to ax their almost all of their pasenger car line-oh wait they did.

Wow...in my mind, Platinum should be the highest because it has the most unique, premium name. Limited is so auto-industry generic for “mid-range” IMHO.
The only one
I truly hate is
“Touring” (Chrysler, Honda, etc). It’s meaningless. And then when they start mixing the actual names with the alphabet soup, it just mucks it all up.

Stupidity or insanity? My experience with teh Fomoco leans toward the latter.

What will Ford screw up next?

The only way “Touring” would make sense is if there were thing optimized for long-haul driving.

Their model lineup.
Oh wait.

In specific, I think this is a clash between their “car” trim level arrangement and their truck customer expectations, combined with giving no fucks whatsoever. “We need a new trim level F-series” “K, call it a Platinum”. “So we’re replacing the Limited at the top?” “No, why would we be?” “But the Explorer Limited isn’t top tier because we saved that for Platinum”. “Blah, blah, blah, you’re doing the words thing again”

Bingo. And I have yet to find that’s the case...

+1 came here for this

Touring is good so long as its used to mean “wagon”. not a trim level.

Star for “Blah, blah, blah, you’re doing the words thing again. ”

Fortunately there is no one in the office, so no one can hear me giggling.

Also, do you mind if I use this in an article for a website I am writing for in the near future ? I will cite you as the original finder and link this post(unlike certain places)

Holy shit. That’s impressively dumb.

You know what else is stupid? Spending $67,000 on a truck

Trim names have become stupid around the whole industry. How models base trim is called Sport these days?

It’s because for the F150, they got a special pre-tariff deal on the Platinum.
The current Expedition is a more recent design and thus, is more affected by the recent Trump Tariffs. Ford wasn’t able to secure the same pricing for Platinum for the Expedition.
So blame Trump.

Everytime I hear “Mazda6 Touring” I always perk up and think they’re going to finally bring over the wagon.

lies, all lies.

That’s only the “Starting at....” price.
Surely that doesn’t even include the Automatic Climate Controlled Taint Ticklers, a must have in a modern pickup
.
Outrage!

The article might have some quirks and features *hint hint*. To be confirmed still.

The dumb part is having a pickup that isn’t a Super Duty with a trim level that’s $55k US. Even more dumb are the idiots buying them and showing Ford they can charge that much.
![]() 10/17/2018 at 21:11 |

I mean, $55k for a pickup truck isn't any crazier than $150k for a sedan.

Completely agree. Vehicles as a whole have become too expensive.

For the Edge, it’s neither L imited nor Platinum for the top trim. It’s Titanium Elite.

Touring is definitely one of the most empty trim levels. It could be anywhere in the line up, top trim to lowest trim. It’s stupid.
The ones I hate are the combo trim names. “Limited Touring” “Premium Sport” “Titanium Elite” etc. It's like they had leftover badges and decided to put both on the car.

...and for the F-series, topmost tippety-top would probably be King Ranch, but they’ve trained their customer base to expect Limited as top “normal” trim. More or less.
